Pneuhaus Process - The Making of an Interactive Inflatable Art Installation

Our studio in a nutshell, seen through the process of Grove.

Grove is an immersive environment dedicated to open-ended exploration and play. Looking up
at Grove’s vaulted arches evokes a feeling similar to that of wandering in a forest surrounded
by tall trees. Designed for day-to-night activation, the sculpture’s white contours fill with vividly
colored light as the Sun sets. The installation’s monumental size exudes a sense of stability
and grounding, even as patterns of color and light continuously change across its surface.
An open form, Grove’s archways allow visitors to see and move through the space freely, even
while the columns offer a feeling of enclosure. The installation’s many entry points are variously
sized, staging multiple horizons of discovery and diverse sensations of space to people of
differing height and age. Built for hands-on engagement, Grove’s visitors are encouraged to
touch and lean into into the sculpture. Children are particularly drawn to this physical
interaction, for example, as one child percussively drums against a column another delightedly
receives the resulting vibration through their palms.
