Lyrics (ENG)
Kaja, my little red rose
Because of you I ended up in prison
It's not my fault - it's your mother's fault
That you got two years in prison
You, Kaja, have a vineyard and grapes
I only have rusty iron
Kaja, sell the vineyard and the grapes
Free me from the rusty iron
You, Kaja, have good, black horses
All I have are rusty chains
Kaja, sell ducats from your neck
And open the door to the prison
Lyrics (HR)
Kajo moja, Kajo, rumena ružice,
Ja zbog tebe, lijepa Kajo, dođoh do tamnice
Nisam ti ja kriva - kriva ti je mama
Što si dobi tamnice dvi godine dana
U tebe je, Kajo, vinograd i grožđe
A na meni, lijepa Kajo, za'rđalo gvožđe
Prodaj, prodaj, Kajo, vinograd i grožđe
KUD “Lađevčani” Lađevac is an ensemble that cultivates the rich tradition of the Kordun region of Croatia. It includes a tamboura orchestra, and its members proudly perform old folk songs passed down from generation to generation. Through its performances, the ensemble cherishes and promotes the cultural heritage of its region, preserving the traditional dances, music and customs of Kordun.
Lađevac is a village located in the Kordun region of central Croatia, about 15 km southeast of the town of Slunj and about 80 km south of the capital, Zagreb. Surrounded by forests and hills, the village has retained its traditional rural character. Lađevac is known for its strong social ties and its residents' attachment to the local culture and folk heritage of the Kordun region.
Kordun is a historical and geographical region located in the central part of Croatia, between the rivers Korana, Mrežnica and Glina. It borders the regions of Lika, Banovina (Banija) and Slavonia, and a small part of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the south. The region's main cities are Slunj, Vojnić and Topusko. The Kordun region is characterized by hilly terrain, large forested areas and a rural landscape. Historically, it was a border area and part of the Military Frontier, so it has been of strategic importance for centuries. Kordun residents are known for their strong commitment to tradition, and folk culture - especially music, dance and costumes - plays an important role in community life.
About us – Balkan Polyphony is a field research project that collects traditional music from the Balkan area. We are not interested in any ideologies, we don’t take sides in any historical conflicts. What interests us is traditional culture and its musical intricacies.
