Permanent Commission (PC) in the Indian Army: PC offers a long-term career in the Indian Army until retirement. It is granted to officers based on their performance, merit, and selection process. Officers with PC have the opportunity to serve until the age of superannuation, which is generally around 54-60 years of age, depending on the rank and service.
PC officers can rise through the ranks, hold key command and staff positions, and avail various career advancement opportunities.
They are entitled to retirement benefits, including pensions and other post-retirement benefits.

Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army: SSC provides a temporary career option for a fixed duration of service. It is granted to officers for a period of 10 years, which can be extended for an additional 4 years (total of 14 years). SSC officers are selected through a specific recruitment process and may have different entry requirements compared to PC officers. After the completion of their SSC tenure, officers can either opt for a Permanent Commission (if eligible and based on vacancies) or choose to retire from the service.
