In this video, I'll dig into a bassist unlike any other in Jazz history--Charlie Haden. Composer, bandleader, educator, and activist, his career spanned the avant-garde to pop music, keeping musical company with the likes of Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett, and Pat Metheny and many others, as well as leading his own groups in the Liberation Music Orchestra and Quartet West.

I'll break down one of his excellent live bass solos ("Lonely Woman") and show you what makes him such a singular musician, but I'll also share my 5 favorite Charlie Haden recordings to check out if you're new to his music.

The "Haden" Vuillaume Bass is currently for sale at Robertson & Sons Violin Shop - https://www.robertsonviolins.com/inde...
