How to Make: Rainbow Fish

Rainbow Fish is every child’s favourite book character and definitely a crowd favourite. It’s the perfect costume if you have a children’s party coming up and super fun to create.

STEPS
1. Cut out fish scale shapes from the multiple felt colours and sequined fabrics
2. Lay the scales across the bottom of the shirt – alternate between felt fabric and sequined fabric
3. Pin felt and sequined scales to the shirt
4. Zig zag stitch scales onto the shirt
5. Lay more scales above the first line of scales. Stitch into place and repeat until the front and back of the shirt is covered in scales
6. Repeat for the back
7. Cut multiple strips of each sequined fabric approximately 10cm by 35cm
8. Fold over 3cm on one of the 10cm side of the piece and zig-zag stitch
9. Repeat for all strips
10. Cut a piece of elastic to comfortably sit around the waist
11. Thread the elastic through the loop at the top of each strip
12. Pin the ends of the elastic together. Stitch together
13. Evenly distribute the strips around the elastic to hide the elastic joining point
14. Cut the various ribbons into different lengths ranging from 30cm and 45cm
15. Using the hot glue gun, glue the ribbons onto the headband or hair comb clip
16. Glue sequins into place. Ensure you hide all the ends of the ribbon on the headband or hair comb clip
