This presentation explores what is known of the connections between an older adult’s involvement in creative arts programs, improved health, and a reduction in health care costs in the USA. It identifies research that demonstrates how older adults can live well for longer through participation in creative arts programs that reduce social isolation, and research linking social isolation as a cause of depression and further health risks. Lastly, the presentation makes the case for further research that more clearly describes the benefits of creative aging programs, and the healthcare costs that can be saved by their widespread adoption.
