Leather Care: How to Use Leather Conditioner / Leather Balm

A quick demonstration and explanation of how to use my "Lip and Leather Balm", which can be used on leather and skin. Available for purchase in my online store:

Using all natural ingredients: Local beeswax, sweet almond oil, organic shia butter, and essential oils.

The balm will react differently depending on what kind of leather it's used on, which is why I start by introducing different leather types (that are relevant to this video). Almost all of my products are veg tan, which is the best kind to use leather balm on, although it can be used on other shiny leathers--just not on deerskin or suede!!

You should apply your leather balm before or after going out in the sun or rain (although try not to get veg tan leather wet!). The oils will heal the leather, while the wax will protect it, so the balm does double duty of treatment and prevention. If you apply after damage from sun or rain, it'll help revive the leather; if you apply it before, it'll help protect it.

Most leather conditioners are made with a blend of animal oil/fat and synthetic waxes (and sometimes beeswax), and they don't smell super great (and aren't something you'd particularly want on your hands or face).
My leather balm, on the other hand, is made with the same ingredients as lip balm, and with the essential oils, it smells really heavenly (the essential oils don't damage the leather).

So does that mean you can just use any lip balm on your leather? I have no idea! Perhaps, however, often products have other ingredients in them that you can't be sure about. I would test on a small piece for a day first.

Can you make your own leather balm? Absolutely! I did a lot of research and testing to make mine, so that's my own trade secret, but you absolutely can find recipes online to make your own 😘
