Sandalwood is the second most expensive wood in the world which is in great demand around the world due to its therapeutic and medicinal value, including essential oils, cosmetics, and perfumes. Even though Sandalwood is found in many countries of the world, Indian Sandalwood is the most expensive. In 2019, the wholesale price of one kg of unlicensed sandalwood oil in the global market in Dubai was $1,750 and the price of one kg licensed Sandalwood oil in India was $2,100. According to India mart, the price of Mysore Indian Sandalwood in 2021 is around $350 per kg. According to the information published in Global Risk Insight, in 2017, the waste chippings or powder of Sandalwood was $1000 per ton. While Sandalwood is available in different countries of the world, why is the price of Indian Sandalwood so high?
