Pottery Tutorial - How to throw a Large Bowl on the Wheel

Hello and welcome back! In this installment we will demonstrate how to throw a large bowl on the wheel. The main difference between throwing a small or medium versus a larger bowl is the techniques you have to use to get it opened. A bowl should always have an angled or rounded interior and the way to create it is by making an angled opening right from the beginning. But that gets challenging when you get over 4 or 5 pounds of clay! I'll show here how I manage it and I would love any feedback on how you deal with larger amounts of clay! This video is best for folks who have thrown smaller bowls before- please don't try to start with 5 pounds! I promise, starting with a pound or two will make things much easier!
