SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane can soon expect a significant economic boost thanks to the numerous sporting events scheduled throughout the month of March.

Restaurants and hotels throughout the city are booked out for weeks, ready to welcome thousands of athletes and tourists to the city for March Madness, Velocity games, volleyball matches and more.

According to David Paluch, General Manager of The Holiday Inn Express in Downtown Spokane, this March feels busier than previous years.

"There are a lot more people coming in than there has been previously," said Paluch. "A lot of these athletes have parents traveling in to see them, grandma, grandpa - it's a lot of fun."

Shops and stores are also expected to feel the impact of the thousands of visitors.

"As these folks are coming into town, I see them carrying shopping bags and retail. They are in and out of everything," said Dan Zimmerer, President of Ruby Hospitality.

This month's events are expected to attract 16,000 athletes and 37,000 fans to Spokane's Podium, One Spokane Stadium and Spokane Arena.

NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championship 1st and 2nd round at the Spokane arena: March 22-24
USA Volleyball Pacific Northwest Qualifier at the Podium: March 23-April 7
