In this video, we are going to need of web Api and its advantages.

First lets see what's an API? API stands for Application Programming Interface which is nothing but a communication channel helps to talk between your apps and database. Earlier the API developers used SOAP model, which is kind of messy and mostly give you a xml data. The future is REST API which will give you the data as JSON format.

Why do we need API? So let me explain a simple example. Consider a situation where you want to retrieve some data from a website, say a list of new items from Product Hunt. Suppose there were no APIs, your developer wants to go to the website, then manually do the scrapping and complicate with the data. This will consume a lot of time which actually effect the app development, instead he gets focused on data. The similar applies for retrieving data from a db. Now suppose there is an API, the developer can retrieve the data easily, or even update the data without downloading entire data to apps backend.

Simply an API helps the developer to think less on the data and concentrate more on the app development and front end. Also as the other writers mentioned above, once you have an API you can easily move and launch your cross platform apps and scaling up.
