DENTON, Texas- The Middle Tennessee women claimed the 2014 Conference USA Women's Cross Country Championship, and host North Texas won the men's championship after the Mean Green's best five runners finished in the top 15.

C-USA XC Championship RESULTS

The Blue Raider women finished with 55 points and were led by sophomore Hanna Maina, who placed second overall in the event. It was the first C-USA Cross Country title for Middle Tennessee after placing seventh in 2013.

MT coach Keith Vroman earned the C-USA Women's Coach of the Year award following his team's performance in the meet.

Rice finished second and was commanded by the C-USA Women's Individual Champion, Cali Roper. The sophomore won the race with a time of 16:43.63 after finishing as the runner-up in her freshman year. The Owls also had two more top-6 finishers as both Katie Jensen and Madi McLellan were named to the C-USA All-Conference First Team.

North Texas came in third as senior Charlotte Wilson led the Mean Green with her fourth-place finish. She was named the Outstanding Senior of the Meet on the women's side after clocking 16:55.06.

UTEP's Joan Jepkirui was named the Freshman of the Meet after placing third with a time of 16:50 flat.

On the men's side, North Texas claimed the team title after notching 50 points. The Mean Green's depth propelled the unit to victory as six runners finished in the top 21 and were named to C-USA All-Conference squads.

Second-year coach Stefanie Slekis won the C-USA Men's Coach of the Year following the Mean Green's first-place finish.

The top finisher for NT was junior Troy Taylor, who came in third overall with a time of 24:15.01 after claiming ninth place in the 2013 event. Behind Taylor was Alejandro Valencia, who was named the Outstanding Senior of the Meet for the men.

UTEP placed second in the race with 58 points and boasted four of the top-seven finishers in the race. Two-time defending C-USA Men's Individual Champion Anthony Rotich led the charge as he claimed his third consecutive individual title with a first-place time of 24:04.38. Coming in second in the race was Miner sophomore Cosmas Coit, who placed third in the 2013 race.





Middle Tennessee placed third with a pair of top-10 finishers. The Blue Raiders were guided by sophomore Shadrack Matelong, who claimed fourth place after finishing 12th in 2013.
