My experience so far:
I got my blood vitamin and mineral levels checked and the only thing I was deficient in was vitamin D. My midwife recommended I take 5000 IU of vegan vitamin D each day. I take it in the form of a liquid drop, chewable, and pill. I’m also trying to spend more time outside now that I am past my morning sickness and it’s no longer 1000° in Los Angeles 😜 Note: most vitamin D supplements are not vegan because the hormone (yes, vitamin D is a hormone) is sourced from lanolin/wool. There are plenty of vegan vitamin D supplements, just be aware when you’re shopping.
I haven’t had any issues with low iron. Actually, I never have. I attribute this to my whole food vegan diet that is full of iron and vitamin C containing foods. Vitamin C helps with absorption of iron.
I do not take a prenatal supplement for 3 reasons, 1) they contain vitamin A, which is unnecessary to get from a supplement if you are eating plenty of beta carotene rich foods. Vitamin A supplementation has been linked to health issues https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Vit... (Note: beta-carotene is not shown to be toxic like preformed vitamin A can).
Vitamins I take daily: chewable Methylfolate 800mcg (Bluebonnet brand), vegan liquid vitamin D3 1000IU (Nordic Naturals brand), chewable vegan D3 2000 IU (Garden of Life brand), pill form of vegan D2 2000 IU (VegLife brand), Omega 3 EPA & DHA 715 mg (Nordic Naturals). I also take chlorella, but not daily 🌱
