Now at over 10 weeks old, how is Moo Deng, the much loved pygmy hippo, doing?
This playful and pudgy baby has been splashing about in water and enjoying belly rubs from her keeper. She's been primarily on a diet of milk, while also trying to imitate her mother by munching on veggies.
The unique cuteness of her luminescent blubber, her tiny cylindrical ears, and her great orb-like black eyes have continued to captivate the internet and left the zoo housing her struggling to manage large crowds jostling to see the latest global celebrity.
Her cuteness is down to “baby schema”, which are her physical features that resemble those of infants. This activates our instinct to want to care for her. Moo Deng’s large eyes, pudgy body, and adorable skin rolls are infantile features that evoke our nurturing instincts
The zoo has planned a 24 hour live stream. Coming soon. So we'll get to see plenty more of Moo Deng growing up and bouncing around.
