[4K] Amtrak Piedmont #73 Full Ride from Raleigh, NC to Charlotte, NC [7-14-21]

Welcome aboard Amtrak Piedmont Train #73, the daily Westbound train from Raleigh, North Carolina to Charlotte, North Carolina! Today we will be traveling along the entirety of the route between Raleigh and Charlotte. Today our train is led by NCDOT EMD F59PH #1893. Amtrak's Piedmont is a relatively recent train, with its first run being on May 26, 1995. The Piedmont is a sister train to Amtrak's New York to Charlotte Carolinian and uses the same trackage as the Carolinian from Raleigh to Charlotte. The route of the Piedmont mostly parallels Interstate 85. Unlike most Amtrak trains that use Amtrak-owned equipment, the Piedmont is unique because the State of North Carolina owns its own equipment that the Piedmont uses. Although all of the trackage the Piedmont uses is owned by the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR), all of it is leased to the Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), one of the two dominant freight railroads on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. From Raleigh to Greensboro the NS Raleigh District Line is used. From Greensboro to Linwood (A small town in between High Point and Salisbury), the NS Danville District Line is used. From Linwood to Charlotte, the NS Charlotte District Line is used.
