Nike's Michael Jordan Tribute ("Heart of the Dark" — Jim Bredouw)

After Michael Jordan retired in 1999, Nike aired one of the most moving commercials I have ever seen. It was a walk back through Jordan's life in basketball, shown over a simple, hauntingly beautiful piece of piano music.

I hadn't heard that piece in ten years, but something made me think of it yesterday. I decided to record my take on it.

I am happy to say that the mystery surrounding this memorable piece has now been resolved. The version that ran in the Nike ad has since evolved into "Heart of the Dark" by its original composer and performer, Jim Bredouw, who was involved with most of the music in Nike ads through the late 80s and early 90s. I am glad to finally be able to give the proper credit for this fine piece of music.
