A. K. Gopalan (AKG) was a highly respected political leader of the Communist movement in India and the first Leader of the Opposition in the Indian Parliament. Known for his dedication and integrity, AKG never opted for a ministerial position in Kerala despite his significant influence. His contributions extended beyond his role in Parliament; he tirelessly advocated social justice and workers' rights. AKG played a crucial role in organizing peasant movements and labor strikes, pivotal in shaping Kerala's socio-political landscape. His efforts in the fight against caste discrimination and for the upliftment of marginalized communities left an indelible mark on Indian society. Additionally, AKG was instrumental in the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and remained a steadfast champion of the poor and the oppressed throughout his life.
