'Radetzky March", Op. 228, is a march composed by Johann Strauss Sr. (1804-1849) and dedicated to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz. First performed on 31 August 1848 in Vienna, and has been extremely popular ever since. Strauss was commissioned to write the piece to commemorate Radetzky's victory at the Battle of Custoza. The middle section uses a folk melody, 'Alter Tanz aus Wien', which he converted from triple time to duple.
