This a song from ”Cox and Box” a farce show with music by Arthur Sullivan before G and S was a thing. It’s a lullaby to bacon. The background to it that in one flat live two men who are until a certain point unaware of the other. The landlord has been letting the room out to two different men while they think it’s let to them individually. They pass each other on the stairs every day as one works nights and the other days. The one that has come in from nights has put bacon on the grill as he prepares to sleep.
As in these things there’s a twist in the tale. It turns out they are twins separated at birth.
