This video was produced by banjo enthusiast Gordon Dando back in 2001.

In it he presented unique videos of four of the finest classic banjo players in the form of Tarrant Bailey Jnr, Horace Craddy, William Ball and Chris Sands. This unique footage showcases some stunning banjo playing.

It is presented here with a new introduction from legendary banjoist Chris Sands.

From the original notes:

A video compiled by Gordon Dando, which features four outstanding exponents of the Classical finger style banjo. Taking the artists separately, their life with music and the banjo is shown, suitably illustrated, with a background of their playing. This is followed by a session of playing by each banjoist with accompanist. Including 4 rare, short Pathé films of Tarrant Bailey made in the 1930's.

The video which is possibly the first of it's kind runs for nearly 3 hours, including approximately 2 hours of playing.

Tarrant Bailey Jnr. 1908-1987. A brilliant and versatile professional banjoist & guitarist. A teacher, composer and recording artist on radio & television. Acknowledged for many years as the finest banjoist in the British Isles.

Horace Craddy. 1902-1994. Professional banjoist and guitarist, radio artist on banjo & guitar. Life long teacher, composer and arranger for a wide range of music to suit his particular audience and further the interest in the classical banjo.

William Ball. 1915-2000. An outstanding amateur classical banjoist and pianist, with a remark-able memory and a perfectionist at all times. He was a conventional player very much in the style and music of Joe Morley whom he admired and successfully emulated.

Chris Sands. b.1961. A talented professional player of the banjo and other instruments. Chris has a very active life in the North of England, with stage and radio performances. He has made numerous albums of banjo recordings, toured in Europe and America with his accompanist Patrick Sykes. A teacher, composer & arranger of music to suit the past & present tastes of music. Chris who was taught latterly by Tarrant Bailey Jnr , has the same dynamic approach and enthusiasm to his performance.
