PSJA counselors received professional development on building strong relationships with their students, by focusing on Social Emotional Learning. The sessions broke down the 5 Competencies of SEL, self-awareness, social awareness, decision making, relationship skills, & self-management. With the goal of students using these skills throughout their academic and professional journey.

Back in 2018, PSJA ISD was awarded the Community Partnerships Initiative grant with the purpose of supporting schools district wide. Through the CPI grant, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning organization, or CASEL, provided these trainings for our counselors.

When counselors provide social emotional learning, they create safe and inclusive environments where students feel valued and respected – allowing them to thrive.
