Unlike most American distilleries that use column stills for a single or double run, Woodford Reserve employs three gleaming copper pot stills, custom-built in Scotland by Forsyths. Here, the “beer still,” “high wine still,” and “spirit still” are run in succession, giving Woodford's whiskey a citrus-bright, fruity, and layered character seldom found in bourbon. This triple distillation technique is borrowed from Irish whiskey practices, resulting in a remarkably refined, full-flavored, and aromatic new make spirit.

Cypress Wood Fermentation Tanks

The traditional open-top fermentation room features enormous 7,500-gallon cypress wood tanks. Cypress is chosen for durability and resistance to water, fostering longer, slower fermentation that coaxes complex esters and depth from the mash without imparting unwanted flavors. Proprietary yeast strains unique to Woodford Reserve further build a rich foundation for nuanced bourbon.

Barrel Innovation & Experimental Aging
