Today was one of those days. Maybe we should have stayed in bed. Got ready to go to Hog Hollow at about 10 am and tried to pull up the stern anchor. She was stuck!! We tried all kinds of tricks and such. Finally had to pull up the bow anchor first and swing the boat around. After an hour of wrenching on that anchor she finally popped. Whew! That was a lesson, but we were able to work it out. I admit, I did think about cutting the line, but I’m glad it didn’t come to that. The anchor itself is a little worse for wear after this tangle. I’ll be sure to post pictures of it once we have service again. It was a nice ride to Hog Hollow. When we got here we knew it got shallow pretty quick and we didn’t notice the winds behind us had picked up. Just as Pete began to lower the anchor we went from 10 ft. to 3 ft. We fought and fought to try to get out but we were lightly aground. That was 1:30 pm. It was quite spectacular to see the shenanigans that we tried to get unstuck. Pete tried to pull the boat with the dinghy. With the wind and the weight of the boat it was just too much. When we put the boat in gear we could hear the props hitting gravel. I said it’s time to call the tow boat. Finally at 2:03 pm I called our TowBoat US insurance to see if they could help. As I write this entry they are sending a tow boat to help us out of our predicament. We do always say AFA! (Always a Flipping Adventure) It was another opportunity to learn a lesson. Once we are out of this mess we are going to find a friendlier gunkhole to spend the night in. Think we’ll sleep well tonight. UPDATE*** We found a friendlier gunkhole, but in our haste to be done with this day we stopped thinking. Peter pulled in to this nice anchorage and I went below to get some drinks. I came up top and both engines quit. I was like “What the heck are you doing?” Peter had come in to anchor and forgot about the dinghy. I got up top and thought, “Oh no! The dinghy is under the boat.” It was not but all the lines were. Our props are fouled with all that 60 ft line. Hopefully we’ll hold. The winds are light and so is the current. Tomorrow dad takes a swim to free those props of the line we sucked up. Our day is not over YET! Boat for SALE! LOL
Beautiful Anchorage actually and the full moon is rising on us. God’s got us… We’ll be fine. We just have to be smarter when we have tough days. Lesson learned.
