1982: Raising of the Mary Rose

On this day in 1982, the Mary Rose, the flagship of the Tudor fleet, was raised from the depths of the Solent. It had sunk over 400 years before, in July 1545.

The recovery operation was led by the Mary Rose Trust, and Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, played an important role in raising the money to support the recovery operation.

This dramatic report features an interview with the Prince, who told of his reaction to a hair-raising incident that occurred during the raising of the vessel.
