In his first interview with police he told them that Nancy talked about plans to jog the next morning. At the end of the interview the detective told him he would be contacting his wife to clarify things. The next morning he contacted police again and changed his story. This was critical because Brad said all along that Nancy went jogging Saturday morning and never returned. Additionally, 16 witnesses contacted police to inform them that they saw someone that matched Nancy's description that morning. Police ignored the information because they wanted to believe the 911 caller, the "friend" who said that Nancy was due at her house to paint that morning. This is more evidence that police botched the investigation. All of these leads should have been followed and the painting story should have been scrutinized. It was not.
