Camping on Kauai, rum tour, hiking the Nā Pali coast... we did it all

Aloha from (the west coast of) KAUAI!! With nature being a big part of what we do here on my channel, Kauai was one of the first islands I put on my list. Kauai is known as the garden isle which makes sense since 97% of the island is undeveloped, raw, wild nature. From hiking to camping, we lived the rural experience on this beautiful island. We rented the rooftop tent jeep from Airbnb and although we had a problem with the blankets, our host made sure to make up for the mistake with a refund (although it was really cold the first night, so I’m not sure if anything could make up for it). There are lots of similar listings on Airbnb if you are interested in camping on Kauai. BUT if you are going to do so, make sure you read below about how to secure a campsite.

Let me shine some light on a rather confusing subject (imo)

How to secure a camping site on Kauai:
You must create an account ON A WEEKDAY! In order to register and pay for camping permits, your application must be approved by a real person on the other end, so make sure you are planning your permits in advance… because we did not and were basically left to the wind to try to figure it out. You can be fined if you are caught camping without a permit.

Go to Kauai.gov
Scroll down and select camping & permits
Click on “camping permits”
Click “Book camping permits here”
Select which site you want at which location using drop down tabs
If you are registered (which you have to do in order to pay), it will prompt you to login if you are not already. Then you are able to pay online.
-If you have not registered yet, enter your email when prompted and submit. You will then have to wait for a response back to your email before you can book the site.
