The San Diego County Sheriff's Office continues to assist our partner law enforcement and fire agencies with a small plane crash in Fallbrook.
On Tuesday, September 23, just before 2:00 p.m., deputies from the Fallbrook Sheriff's Substation, along with the North County Fire Protection District and the California Highway Patrol, responded to a report of a plane crash. The crash involved a single engine Cessna 182-N that had crashed near the 2100 block of S. Mission Road.
Upon arrival, deputies located the aircraft, where it had subsequently traveled over an embankment and into the Los Jilgueros Nature Preserve. Firefighters quickly put out a small brush fire that was sparked by the plane crash.
The 72-year-old pilot was able to exit the aircraft prior to emergency personnel arriving. He suffered minor injuries, but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The plane crash resulted in debris being scattered across both northbound and southbound lanes of S. Mission Road. County HAZMAT and firefighters remained on scene to ensure the aircraft was safely recovered and loaded onto a tow truck. The CHP managed road closures until the area was deemed safe for reopening.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will conduct the follow-up investigation into the incident.

Plane Crash: Fallbrook, around 2:04 PM, calls came in for a Plane Crash at S Mission Rd. and Air Park Rd. just east of the runway of Fallbrook Airpark, arriving units found an Aircraft down in the bushes off the roadway and on fire, one single occupant escaped with minor injuries, S Mission Rd. is closed in both directions while the investigation takes place.
