“Maadhava Maamava” is a Mohiniyattam padam composed by Narayana Theerta in Ragam Neelambari set to Aadi tala.
This Mohiniyattam piece primarily depicts the boundless devotion of Gopikas’ to Lord Krishna. It also takes you through the stories of Game of Dice and Draupadi Vasthrakshepam, in which Yudhishtira loses to Duryodhana in the game of dice and Pandavas lose all their wealth and possessions, including themselves and their wife Draupadi to Kauravas. Then Duryodhana orders his brother Dushasana to drag Draupadi to the court and Dushasana forcibly tries to disrobe Draupadi in public. Draupadi prays to Lord Krishna and Lord Krishna protects Draupadi’ s honor by transforming her saree into a magically endless piece of cloth.
