On 11th July 2024, Superintendent of Police Lonavala Subdivision, Mr Satyasai Kartik received a tip-off from an informant that some individuals were planning to bring cannabis for sale in the Karla Phata area of Lonavala using a four-wheeler. Recognising the gravity of the information, Mr Kartik and his team set up a trap in the Karla Phata area from midnight. As per the tip-off, at around 03:05 AM on 11th July 2024, a suspicious vehicle was spotted near Tejas Dhaba on the old Mumbai Pune Highway Road. When the team stopped the vehicle and questioned the individuals, their evasive answers and suspicious behaviour prompted a search of the vehicle.

In the presence of witnesses, the police team discovered 48 kg of cannabis worth ₹9,20,000 (Nine Lakh Twenty Thousand Rupees) in two sacks in the vehicle’s boot. The cannabis was sealed and seized on the spot. During the initial inquiry, the suspects admitted that they were transporting the cannabis for sale. The arrested individuals are:
1. Nitin Shivaji Lehane, 38, resident of Aurangpur, Shirur Taluka, Beed District
2. Sandipan Patloba Gutte, 39, resident of Parli Vaijnath, Parli Taluka, Beed District
3. Ganesh Suresh Darade, 30, resident of Kej, Kej Taluka, Beed District

The suspects, along with their vehicle, were taken to Lonavala Rural Police Station, where Police Sub-Inspector Shubham Chavan filed a complaint on behalf of the government. A case has been registered under Crime No. 223/2024 under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Sagar Argade of Lonavala Rural Police Station.

In the aforementioned action under the Sankalp Drug-Free Campaign, a total of ₹14,60,000 (Fourteen Lakh Sixty Thousand Rupees) worth of goods, including 48 kg of cannabis, have been seized. The police machinery is conducting a thorough investigation.
