How to rig a tank in Maya: Learn how to create a reliable and effective tank rig in Maya.

This is the forth of a 4 part video tutorial series geared to teach you how to rig a tank in Maya to a professional level. Please keep in mind that this rig is not easy to achieve so be sure to know the rigging basics before watching. In this video, "How to rig a tank in Maya - part 4", I will be setting up a very reliable, no-flip, turret target control with an automatic hull recoil effect that reacts to the turrets direction. I will also show off how simple the tank rig is to animate and show you how to export with ease.

The Wheels need to be point constrained to their respective wheel controls exactly the same way as the wheel clusters are, so Y axis only and maintain the offset.

To add a Global Scale & Top Control
For those who have purchased the complete rig, this feature was added on Feb 29 2020.

1. move the parent constraint on base_jt to root_jt instead.
2. create a top_ctrl and add a global scale attribute to it. Parent drive_ctl to top_ctrl.
3. remove parent constraints from tread_up_object + clusters groups.
4. connect global scale attribute to the XY&Z scale for turret_aim_grp + root_jt
5. turn off scale compensate for all joints.
6. remove constraints from all clusters.
7. direct connect the Y axis of each wheel cluster to their corresponding wheel ctrl.
8. create a locator, call it “hull_cluster_pt” and parent to clusters group.
9. direct connect the “hull_cluster_pt” rotation to the hull_jt.
10. parent constrain (Translate Y+Z and Rotate X+Y Only) the l_ & r_hull cluster to “hull_cluster_pt”.
