In 2014 we will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first manned landing of the moon, the spaceflight APOLLO 11.
Launched on July, 16th, 1969 in Cape Kennedy, the crew of Commander Neil Armstrong, Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, flew with the command module "Columbia" to the moon. On July, 20th, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed with the Lunar Module "Eagle" on the moon, while their fellow Michael Collins waited in the moon orbit in "Columbia" for their return. At 21:56 hr. (Houston Time), Neil Armstrong stepped as first man on the moon; Buzz Aldrin followed him 15 minutes later. Both astronauts stayed for 2 hours 30 minutes on the moon surface for explorations and collecting moon rock. On July, 21st, 1969, "Eagle" lifted off from the moon, docked with "Columbia" and the crew returned to earth on July, 24th, 1969.
