Hello friends, welcome to my channel decor and more with Sakshi. This will be my first video of the new year and I wanted to start my new year in a positive note with the god’s blessing. So That gives me a very unique opportunity to attempt a very popular form of ancient India art commonly known as Kerala Mural art which is primarily portraying gods in the beautiful mural paintings.

As the name suggest, this popular ancient Indian art form is practiced primarily in the state of Kerala where ancient temples such as Shiva temple in Ettumanoor, Krishnapuram palace and many churches across the state displays traditional mural paintings dating back between 9th and 12th centuries CE. Kerala Mural paintings are greatly inspired by Hindu Mythology. Most of the painting are portraying Hindu gods, goddesses or are related to a theme with a strong devotional message.

Kerala Mural paintings are primarily painted on the walls and the first step in the process is to prepare the wall using the mixture of quick lime, and juice of very tender coconut. For my painting, I am using a white acrylic paper instead. Once the wall surface is ready, we can draw a sketch of desired figure and highlight the outline with the black color. Here I am making a sketch of lord Krisha with flute in his hand and I will be using the black sharpie pen to highlight the outline of my sketch. Next step in the process is to fill the colors. Similar to other ancient art forms, muralist uses natural colors prepared from vegetable and mineral pigments for mural painting. Panchavarna which means Five exclusive colors i.e. red, yellow, green, black and white are used in the traditional Mural painting and each color represents a specific virtue of the character like Green color is used for Spiritual, Divine or Dharmic charecters, Red to Golden Yellow color is used to signify Power, White color is used for Mean characters whereas Black color is used for Evil or Demon characters. I will be using the arcrylic colors for my painting. You can use the color shading technique to add details in the painting.
