At 10h pm last night a SQ (Surete du Quebec) officer was shot after responding to a domestic dispute call at the corner of Du Sentier St and Du Boise St in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The tragic incident happened in the community of Grande-Ile in the small city just west of Montreal. A lengthy standoff involving SQ's tactical teams and a K9 unit ensued and lasted until early this morning. One woman in her sixties was declared dead and two other people injured, one of which is the SQ officer. Images show what seems to be a wrapped up body being loaded in an ambulance near the scene of the incident. A police car crashed into a lamp post near the scene of the incident the officers were apparently responding to. The police officer that was shot suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.

Update 10-5-2017 - The suspect, 72 year old Alain Castongay was charged with first degree murder in the homicide of 65 year old Johanne Chayer. He also faces four charges of attempted murder towards the police officers that were shot at. The officer who was hit suffered serious gun shot wounds to the middle of the body and remains in serious but stable condition in hospital.

À 22h hier soir un policier s'est fait tiré près de l'intersection Du Boisé et Du Sentier à Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Une longue opération policière s'en est suivit impliquant les membres tactiques des policiers de la SQ ainsi que de l'escouade canine. Une femme dans la soixantaine a été déclarée morte et deux autres personnes blessées, dont le policier. Ce qui semble être un corps entouré d'une couverte apparaît dans les images vidéos alors que des paramédics l'embarque dans une ambulance. Une auto de police a percuté un poteau électrique non loin de l'incident, il semble que les policiers répondaient à l'appel au moment de la collision. Le policier qui s'est fait tiré repose à l'hopital et a souffert de sérieuses blessures.

Mise à jour 10-5-2017 - Alain Castongay, 72 ans est accusé de meurtre au premier degré pour l'homicide de Johanne Chayer, 65 ans. Le suspect de la fusillade de mardi dernier fait aussi face à 4 chefs d'accusation de tentatives de meurtre contre les policiers sur lequels il a ouvert le feu. Le policier atteint par balle repose à l'hopital avec de graves blessures au milieu du corps mais on ne craint pas pour sa vie.
