Hi, I'm Dr. Marisa Weiss. I'm president and founder of Breast Caner dot org. I'm also a practicing oncologist and mom and also a breast cancer survivor so I'm happy to share information with you today that could help protect your life against breast cancer. The breast is a fascinating organ. It's not just a mound of fat so it's going to feel sort of lumpy and bumpy naturally. In addition a lot of women have different neighborhoods to their breasts. Some areas feel you know like they're little marbles in there like in the upper, outer aspect. And in the lower part of the breast for many women it feels like sort of a sandy, rocky beach. You may have your own neighborhoods in your breast tissue that you get to know over time but if you do feel like a pebble on the beach or like a nut in your oatmeal kind of thing, something that stands out that's not like the background breast tissue and it persists you want to bring it to the attention of your doctor. Just so you know though, 8 out of 10 lumps that women feel turn out to be just fine. We call benign. Things like cysts and fibroadenoma things that are not cancer. So if you find something, it persists and you're concerned about it bring it to the attention of your doctor or your nurse practitioner."
