Ragtime Piano Roll Volume 1 and 2 (Riverside RLP-1006/RLP-1025 - 1953)

Описание к видео Ragtime Piano Roll Volume 1 and 2 (Riverside RLP-1006/RLP-1025 - 1953)

During the surge of honky-tonk piano recordings in the early 1950s, a few entries stood out as they were only peripheral or adjacent to the honky-tonk. This one evokes the ragtime as the core of those albums, but is clearly aligned with the re-emergence of ragtime through the 1950 book They All Played Ragtime by Rudi Blesh and Harriet Janis. While not the best of fidelity, the Ragtime Piano Roll series was the first LP series of its kind including several basic and a few very fine piano roll renditions of both common and rare rags. The usual copious liner notes and visual commentary are included, but identification of all but two of the roll matrices proved to be a challenge, so, titles only.
