After the Germans attacked and succesfully capitulated the Low Countries, they marched into France.
The French troops took new defensive positions on the Somme and Aisne river, a line known as "Weygand-Line" after the French Defence Minister Maurice Weygand.
This line was staffed by 49 French Division, many of them
The Germans attacked this new line on June 5th and broke through it on June 8th, 1940.

The French Goverment then left Paris on June 10th for Tours, and declared it an open city on June 12th.

The first German units arrived in the city in the early morning on June 14th, and it was fully occupied by the end of the day.
