The miracle of Yeshua multiplying the fish and loaves is recorded in all four Gospels, with slightly different details in each account. Here’s a list of the relevant passages:
1. Matthew 14:13-21 (Feeding of the 5,000)
Yeshua withdraws to a solitary place, but the crowds follow Him.
He has compassion on them and heals the sick.
The disciples say they have only five loaves and two fish.
Yeshua looks up to heaven, blesses, and breaks the food, then gives it to the disciples.
5,000 men (plus women and children) are fed, and 12 baskets of leftovers are collected.
2. Mark 6:30-44 (Feeding of the 5,000)
Similar to Matthew, but adds that they were in a "deserted place."
Yeshua tells the disciples to organize the people into groups of 50 and 100 before feeding them.
Twelve baskets of leftovers are gathered.
3. Luke 9:10-17 (Feeding of the 5,000)
Mentions that it was near the time of Passover.
The disciples tell Yeshua to send the people away to find food.
Yeshua tells them, "You give them something to eat."
The crowd is ordered to sit in groups of 50.
After blessing and breaking the bread and fish, 12 baskets of leftovers remain.
4. John 6:1-14 (Feeding of the 5,000)
States that the miracle happened just before Passover.
Philip and Andrew speak to Yeshua about how much food would be needed.
A boy brings five barley loaves and two fish.
Yeshua gives thanks before breaking the food (instead of using the word "bless").
The people recognize this as a miraculous sign and want to make Him king.
5. Matthew 15:32-39 & Mark 8:1-10 (Feeding of the 4,000)
A separate but similar event where Yeshua feeds 4,000 men with seven loaves and a few small fish.
Seven baskets of leftovers are collected.
6. John 12:24 (The Grain Must Fall)
"Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit."
This connects to the theme that breaking (or sacrifice) leads to multiplication.
LYRICS
"Broken and Blessed"
(Inspired by Luke 9:10-17 & John 6:1-14)
(Verse 1)
Passover time was drawing near,
Crowds had gathered, far and near.
Five thousand men were counted that day,
Yet no one had food, no place to stay.
(Pre-Chorus 1)
Then a boy stepped up with a simple gift,
Five loaves, two fish in his fingertips.
Yeshua smiled, raised His hands on high,
And lifted His voice to The Most High.
(Chorus)
🎶 Broken and blessed, lifted in prayer,
Multiplied by mercy, love beyond compare.
What seemed too little, He made enough,
From broken things, He pours out love. 🎶
(Verse 2)
"Sit them down," the Master said,
"Fifty in groups, let them be fed."
He tore the fish, He broke the bread,
And what was empty was full instead.
(Pre-Chorus 2)
The hungry ate till they had their fill,
From His hands, the baskets spilled.
Twelve left over, none cast aside,
For in His kingdom, there's always life.
(Chorus - Repeat)
🎶 Broken and blessed, lifted in prayer,
Multiplied by mercy, love beyond compare.
What seemed too little, He made enough,
From broken things, He pours out love. 🎶
(Bridge)
Oh, the grain must fall before it grows,
The vine is pressed before it flows.
In every breaking, new life appears,
And what we lose, He redeems with years.
(Outro)
So take my hands, take my days,
Break what’s small in me, use it Your way.
For in His hands, the broken survive,
Broken and blessed, forever alive.
