Since 2018, the Vosges forest has been dealing with drought and heat waves due to climate change. Forest fires are going to increase in frequency and intensity, and firefighters are getting ready.

In 2020, the French forestry corps reviewed some 218,000 hectares (20 times the size of Paris) of forest rotting due to drought and the damaging effects of insects and animals, such as deer. The level of alarm is not as high as in the south of the country, but the eastern forests at the foot of the Vosges massif could pay dearly for the effects of global warming.
