ABOUT
The eight five two's debut EP, 'The eight five two - 1', takes the listener on a kaleidoscopic journey through ethereal visions, exploring themes of self-sabotage, time, and love with unconventional sounds and song structures. The EP follows the release of the singles 'Shiver', 'Sweet Feeling', and 'Catch a Feeling', which saw the band's first spin on Triple J. The de la Hoyde brothers, who individually and collectively have made their mark on the Australian music scene, showcase their diverse skill set, intertwined with their shared love and passion. The band's name, derived from their experience growing up in Hong Kong, where the area code is 852, is a calling card to where they feel it all began. From the subtle opening track 'Shiver' to the distorted lead single ‘Eyes In The Sun’ and the quiet, reaching feeling found in the piano work of 'Don't You Know', The eight five two presents an internalisation of disconnection, fleeting love and the vastness of the void. The EP is self-produced and recorded by the de la Hoyde brothers, with drums recorded at Hercules St Studios with Ryan Miller as Engineer. The band has received support from Apple Playlists such as New Music Daily, New in Indie, The Sound, and New in Alternative, and has been praised by critics and industry insiders alike.
