Описание к видео IMRH 4 years away | HAL & Safran signs agreement for co-development of engine

IMRH 4 years away

HAL is developing IMRH helicopters of 13-ton category for armed forces to replace the ageing fleets of Russia-origin Mi-Series of military helicopters which will start being phasing out by 2028-29. This helicopter will be capable of landing and take-off from 5 km altitude and will be the only helicopter of this class to do so.

HAL has already completed the preliminary design review and to carry out the development process of the multi-role helicopters it is waiting for the government funding. Once the government approves the funding for this project the first flight will take off four years from now. One unit will cost around Rs 300 crore.

This project got a boost in 2022 when the HAL and French engine maker Safran came together, and it is dedicated to building helicopter engine development, sales and support and production.

Safran & HAL signed agreement for joint development of the engine

During Aero Indian 2023, Safran Helicopter Engines and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a workshare agreement for the joint development of the engine intended for the future 13-ton IMRH (Indian Multi-Role Helicopter) and its naval version DBMRH (Deck Based Multi-Role Helicopter). This agreement follows the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed on 8th July 2022 and stipulates the sharing of activities within the joint venture where both parties have agreed on an equivalent repartition. In particular, HAL will take part in the design, development, and production of some of the core engine components, which is a breakthrough achievement in terms of expertise and know-how in the country.

Both partners also agreed on the condition for the transfer right to HAL for manufacturing of seven critical forging and casting raw parts, for further enhancement of indigenous content in Shakti engine of Dhruv and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) programs.

IMRH: Indian Multirole Helicopter

IMRH(Indian Multirole Helicopter) is a Twin engine, multi role, multi
mission, 13 tonne weight class of Medium Lift helicopter. It is being designed
to perform versatile roles & operations which include Support Air Assault,
Air Transport, VIP Transport, Combat logistics viz. Troop Transport, Combat
Search & Rescue and Casualty Evacuation operations. It will eventually
replace the MI-17 helicopters of IAF and will better in many aspects than its
latest version MI-17 V5.
