Shifting gears; Sri Lanka's women crane operators

Upeksha, Nimasha, Ruchini, and Nethmi are among the handful of women transfer crane operators in #SriLanka's Colombo port. They are participants of ILO supported workplace-based training programme that's empowering women take up careers in the largely male dominated maritime industry.

Rolled out by the Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy, together with the National Union of Seafarers (NUSS), and funded by the Government of Japan, the programme is already seeing success in enhancing skills and job prospects for women to pursue employment in the maritime industry, breaking barriers, and shifting mindsets.
