17 Illegal Structures Demolished from Police Line to Kachahari in Major Encroachment Drive

Varanasi authorities launched a massive anti-encroachment operation on Sunday as part of the Kachahari–Sandha four-lane road widening project. The campaign, conducted jointly by the Varanasi Development Authority and the Police Department, saw the demolition of 17 illegal constructions, including portions of shops and houses, along the route from Police Line to Golgadda.

The ₹316.62 crore project aims to construct a 9.325 km four-lane road from Police Line to Gauraipur. Despite repeated notices, many property owners had not removed their encroachments, forcing authorities to take strict action.

The drive began early in the morning and involved dismantling walls and structures encroaching onto the road. Authorities ensured minimal disruption to traffic during the operation.

In some areas, over 85% of the construction had already been removed earlier, but remaining portions were brought down during this latest push. Police have also registered cases against four individuals under relevant sections for obstructing the drive.

Officials stated that such operations will continue until the entire stretch is free of encroachments, paving the way for smoother traffic and better infrastructure in the city.
