If you've ever wondered what the real-life stories of servants shown in dramas like Downton Abbey are, you'll be fascinated by the next in our 1900s series 'Lives in Service". Wentworth Wooodhouse was, of course, much larger and grander than "Downton", with a greater number of staff. In this episode, we meet Bonnie William Willson, the Steward's Room Boy- the youngest member of the live-in staff in 1911. We see him in his first few days at the House as he trains to become a Footman - getting lost in the labyrinth of corridors and cellars, trying to stay on the best side of the First Footman, and taking the Countess' disobedient dog for walks. It's a hard life when EVERYONE at the Big House has a job for you! But at least someone in the kitchens has a soft spot for him- the second Kitchen maid, Edith Mason.
