Reheat in Rankine cycle

Описание к видео Reheat in Rankine cycle

Hello Viewers, Dr. Amit Mandal here, Its a demonstration to understand the purpose of Reheat in Rankine cycle , Ideal Reheat cycle. The main purpose of reheat is to reduce the wetness of steam before entering the turbine. It is the process of reheating the steam after it has expanded partially in the high-pressure turbine. In a simple Rankine cycle, the steam is expanded from a high pressure and temperature to a low pressure and temperature in a single turbine. This results in a significant amount of moisture in the steam at the exit of the turbine. This moisture can damage the turbine blades and reduce the efficiency of the cycle. In a reheat Rankine cycle, the steam is expanded partially in the high-pressure turbine, then reheated in a reheater to its original temperature or a higher temperature. The reheated steam is then expanded further in the low-pressure turbine.
Reheating the steam increases the thermal efficiency of the cycle in two ways:
1) It reduces the amount of moisture in the steam at the exit of the low-pressure turbine, which improves the efficiency of the turbine and reduces the risk of blade damage.
2) It increases the mean temperature of heat addition to the cycle,
Reheat Rankine cycles are commonly used in large power plants because they offer higher thermal efficiency than simple Rankine cycles.
