This lecture moves from the big picture to the building blocks. We distinguish the Internet from the World Wide Web, trace the Web’s origin to a research environment, and show how HTML (the language of webpages) and HTTP/HTTPS (the delivery system) cooperate to display content. You will identify common web browsers and the practical difference between a browser and an app. Finally, you’ll learn how cookies provide state so websites can remember you across clicks—solving the stateless nature of HTTP in simple, classroom-friendly terms.
