Anand Singh, a minister who left the Congress in 2019, was referred to as a "prostitute" by BK Hariprasad, the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, for leaving the party in less than a year after being elected to represent the Vijayanagara (Hospet) constituency.
Anand Singh was the first of the 17 MLAs to leave their positions and join the BJP, which caused the Congress-JD(S) coalition government to fall and opened the door for the BJP to take power in the state.
