Published specialized distribution release Tails 4.24 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), based on the Debian package base and designed to provide anonymous access to the network. Anonymous logging into Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except for traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. Encryption is used to store user data in the save user data mode between runs. Prepared for download iso-image, capable of working in Live mode, 1.1 GB in size.
In the new version, the transition to the Tor Browser 11 browser branch was made, the stable release of which has not yet been formed (instead of the expected stable release of Browser 11.0, another test release was published Tor Browser 11.0a10based on Firefox 91.3 ESR and Tor alpha 0.4.7.2).
Other changes in Tails 4.24: made more noticeable the confirmation dialog displayed when trying to reinstall the system on a USB drive with Persistent Storage enabled. Improvements have been made to the Tor Connection wizard, which makes it possible to connect from censored networks through bridged gateways to bypass blocking. Improved time zone selection interface. Reduced CPU load when displaying download status in the update installation interface.
:: More ::
The Amnesic Incognito Live System ( Tails ) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity to the user.
The product comes with various Internet applications including web browser, IRC client, email and instant messaging client, all pre-configured with security in mind and all traffic anonymized.
If you want to be invisible online all the time, you should use Tails, which is even used by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
After a two day delay, Tails 4.24 is now available for download and comes with the latest and greatest Tor Browser 11.0 anonymous browser, which is based on the Mozilla Firefox 91 ESR series and brings many new features and improvements.
In fact, Tor Browser 11 wasn't even officially released, it's still in alpha development at the time of this writing, but the Tails developers have decided to include it as the default browser in this new version of their system.
Yes. Tails 4.24 also comes with an improved Tor connection wizard that better explains how to type a bridge, improves explanation when fixing the clock, improves the time zone selection interface, and removes mention of local networks when opening the insecure browser.
Tails Installer has also been improved in this release, and now features a “scarier” confirmation dialog when reinstalling a USB stick with persistent storage, as well as Tails Upgrader, which now consumes all CPU power while getting the download progress training.
Other noteworthy changes include the latest security updates for the Debian 11 series of operating systems, the latest package updates for Debian 10.11, Linux kernel 5.10.46 LTS, switch to zstd for SquashFS compression under ISO/USB image development and various bug fixes.
The next release is Tails 4.25, currently scheduled for December 7, 2021.
