A few weeks ago I reviewed Affinity Photo 2.6 and described the relationship between the Develop and Photo Personas as being broadly similar to the relationship between Lightroom and Photoshop.

That holds in the broad sense, but diving deeper into Affinity photo and taking into consideration Adobe's development of Masks in Lightroom, I decided to adjust my workflow in order to take advantage of the fact that the Affinity Photo persona is much more flexible than the Develop persona.

The major change I made was to treat the Develop persona as a preprocessing stage, preparing the image for editing in the Photo persona. This apparently simple change had the effect of unleashing the real power of the photo persona. By concentrating the Develop persona on delivering a technically perfect file to the photo persona, much more choice is available.

This video takes us through the process. Diifferent photos may require different actions in the Photo persona, but as a basis to get the most power out of Affinity and to move on to effective use of Masks with Layers, this workflow is excellent.
