The answer isn’t as much as what your IRA CAN invest in, it’s what your IRA CAN’T invest in. Almost any type of investment is permissible inside of an IRA. The IRS prohibits IRA’s investing in two asset classes, those being life insurance contracts and collectibles. Some collectibles include art works, antiques, jewelry, etc.

Even though the IRS only prohibits these two assets to be held in IRAs, a large majority of the population does not realize that their retirement accounts can invest in assets off the stock market, such as real estate, promissory notes, private equity, cryptocurrency, precious metals, and more!
