Frederic Chiu is a classical concert pianist who has toured extensively worldwide. He tells the story of how, during a stay in Paris, he learned to stop practicing and start loving the process of making music.

Frederic Chiu is a classical concert pianist who has toured extensively worldwide. A recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Juilliard School Petschek Award and the American Pianists Fellowship, he has performed in the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and The Berlin Philharmonic. He is committed to expanding the reach of classical music and has created unusual collaborations with artists outside the classical music world such as Shakespearean actor Brian Bedford, psychologist/clown Howard Buten and hip hop artist Socalled. Constantly innovating his audience-building approach, he is running a multi-year project called “Classical Smackdown” which is a program that engages the audience by having them vote for their favorite composer.
